mim_logoIMI was established in 1993 as a public-private partnership among different types of organizations, united by the common goal of achieving sustainable regional development, increasing the qualifications of human resources, and providing equal access to education for elderly people, people with disabilities and people in unequal social position, such as immigrants.
IMI has experience in organizing international forums, seminars and training courses, awareness-raising activities and information campaigns. In the course of these activities IMI has successfully reached out to and mobilized various target groups and stakeholders (e.g. young people, elderly people, education providers, policy makers). The organization has carried out research in several different fields, including social cohesion, sustainable development, partnerships between business and education, sustainable tourism, vocational education, validation of skills acquired through non-formal and informal learning, etc. The organization has extensive experience in implementing EU-funded projects.

Birmingham City University – UK


With around 23,500 students from 80 countries, Birmingham City University is a large and diverse higher education institution. It is the second largest of five universities in the city of Birmingham. Initially established as the Birmingham College of Art with roots dating back to 1843, it was designated as a polytechnic in 1971 and gained university status in 1992. The university has three main campuses serving four faculties, and offers courses in art and design, business, the built environment, computing, education, engineering, English, healthcare, law, the performing arts, social sciences, and technology. A £125million extension to its campus in the city center of Birmingham, part of the Eastside development of a new technology and learning quarter, is opening in two stages, with the first phase having opened its doors in 2013. The university puts £270 million into the regional economy and support thousands of jobs in the area. Roughly half of the university’s full-time students are from the West Midlands, and a large percentage of these are from ethnic minorities. The university runs access and foundation programmes through an international network of associated universities and further education colleges, and has the highest intake of foreign students in the Birmingham area.

The University carries out applied scientific research in the fields of environmental protection, food technology, IT, electrical energy, business, legal environment, health care, social services, higher education and other areas. Utena University of Applied Sciences offers 23 study programmes. After successful completion of the studies the graduates are awarded with Professional Bachelor’s qualification degree and respective professional qualification. Graduates of Utena University of Applied Sciences have the possibility to get a double diploma with higher education institutions in Great Britain and Bulgaria.

International School of Law and Business – Lithuania

The International School of Law and Business (ISLB) is an accredited University of Applied Sciences providing professional Bachelor degrees (180 ECTS). It is the biggest private establishment of higher education in Lithuania. The Faculty of Law and Management has a total number of 2,500 enrolled students and nearly 300 academics and practitioners. The faculty implement seven study programmes, including Law, Tourism and Hotel Management, Business Management, Transport Management, Advertising Management, Accounting, and Finance, with a wide variety of business oriented specializations, such as Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Management of Beauty Services, Sales Management, Hotel Administration (also taught in English), Tourism Administration, Advertising and Communication Technologies, Advertising and Information Environment in Business, Logistics (also taught in English), and Organization and Management of Road Transport Companies.

University of Thessaly – Greece

The main mission of the University of Thessaly is the promotion of scientific knowledge through research and the contribution to the cultural and economic development of the local community and wider society. It is known for its research performance and scientific achievements. The institution puts special emphasis on the bond between the University of Thessaly and the local society, e.g. through the operation of the University Hospital of Larissa which covers the medical needs of the whole region of Thessaly. Currently, the University of Thessaly has 9,647 undergraduate students, 1,471 postgraduate students and 1,148 PhD students. The university comprises six schools—Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Health Sciences, Physical Education and Sport Sciences and Sciences. Each department has its own associated student organization. The Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship is primarily supported by the Department of Urban Planning and Regional Development.

Izmir University of Economics

IUE_logoİzmir University of Economics (IUE), which is the first foundation university in İzmir and in Aegean region, was established in 2001 by the İzmir Chamber of Commerce Education and Health Foundation. IUE is a non-profit foundation university. Currently, it has 7,500 students studying in associate degree, undergraduate and graduate programs in an extensive variety of fields, organized in 7 faculties (38 undergraduate programs), 2 graduate schools (35 master programs, 6 PhD programs), 2 schools, and 3 vocational schools. Among the undergraduate programs offered, there are 7 dual degree programs jointly conducted with State University of New York (SUNY). IUE places great emphasis on internationalization. Strong relations have been formed with universities around the world for student and faculty exchange, joint research and scientific studies. Annually, IUE has international students from 60 different countries either as exchange or full-time students and international academic staff. The medium of instruction at IUE is English for all programs (except Faculty of Law).

INDICO – Instituto Internacional de Desarrollo Profesional y Coaching

It is a non profit organization focused on project management, transfer of project results, and the promotion of innovation through the application of new technologies. INDICO is recognized as a training provider by public institutions, such as the regional government and the regional office of employment. The organization manages and promotes innovative and creative projects in different sectors, improves skills and competences and promotes real and virtual mobility. It offers a variety of courses (on-line and blending) in different professional areas as University courses from enterprises and Excellency cycles. The virtual classroom displays an innovative method of learning where most of the courses are guided by a tutor. INDICO has signed a Chair in the University of Zaragoza to allow a close relationship between University and enterprises.

Sociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI) – Portugal

SPISociedade Portuguesa de Inovação (SPI – is a private consulting company, created in 1997, as an active center of national and international networks connected to the SME and innovation sectors. Since its inception, SPI has become a leading promoter of linkages between private sector companies, science and technology institutions, and national and international public and private organizations. Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB)

IPB logoThe Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) is a public higher education institution with 7,000 undergraduate and master students, embracing a wide area of knowledge and technology, including agriculture sciences, arts and sports, education and teachers’ training, informatics and engineering, administration and management, health, communication and tourism. IPB belongs to the European Network for Universities of Applied Sciences (UASnet), whose main objectives include the transferability of professional skills and the integration of applied research in their professional and technological education mission. IPB has also an internationalization programme which supports the annual mobility of more than 900 incoming and outgoing students and 200 teaching staff members. Nowadays the IPB is a multicultural institution, where 16% of its students are international students. Besides the academic programmes taught in the Portuguese language, the IPB also offers bachelor and master programmes fully lectured in English, as well as Portuguese language and culture courses for foreign students.
